Mental health awareness through storytelling & community dialogue

DECEMBER MONTHLY SPOTLIGHT

This Was the Unwind They Needed

“This is the real unwind we needed before finals in two weeks.” A Student @ MSJHS

12-3-25 Mission YUH all in one Retro

Mission Perfect and yes, the pressure is real.

Our Youth Unwind Hour at Mission San Jose High School became exactly what students needed as finals approached, a space for honesty, relief, and real connection. Guided by Sruti Ramnath and grounded by insights from Gita Baliga Savel, MA (Counseling Psych), students opened up about burnout, pressure, and expectations.

We were especially heartened to see our Rcoz High School Changemakers in the room. Thank you to our Youth Ambassador, Shreyas Jay, for leading this collaboration with the Mission Psych Club.

If your school is looking for a Youth Unwind Hour that truly meets students where they are, we’d love to connect: team@rcoz.us

Unpacking The Roles of South Asian Men

The Conversation Men Have Been Wanting and Waiting For

At our men only Chalo Baatein Karen session, Sanjeev Balarajan AMFT, from Trust Mental Health, opened with a single, thought-provoking question:
“Provider, Protector, Head of Family, which one are you?”

Instead of defaulting to labels, men shared honestly about responsibility, identity, and the emotional pressures beyond cultural expectations. With guidance from Rcoz Advisor Ratnesh Sharma, the conversation explored what these roles look like in real life.

It was clear this dialogue is long overdue and we’re committed to building on it.

SOCHNE KI BAAT (DID YOU KNOW?

A 2024 study by The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) found that approximately 24% of South Asian youth reported having planned or attempted suicide in their lifetime.
