Mental health awareness through storytelling & community dialogue

FEBRUARY MONTHLY SPOTLIGHT

From BBC to Rcoz, Devashish Sarkar Joins Our Board

“The right story can change how people see themselves and each other. Rcoz is making mental health conversations human, not clinical, and I’m honored to help amplify the voices that need to be heard.”

Devashish Sarkar

We’re thrilled to welcome Devashish Sarkar to the Rcoz Board. Former CEO of BBC Worldwide Media and now an educator and author in neurodiverse learning, Devashish brings a powerful lens on storytelling, education, and mental health that aligns deeply with Rcoz’s mission.

Equipping South Asian Youth to Lead on Mental Health
“The slides, stories, and expert learning were so well done. Rcoz created a space where our children heard what we, as parents, often can’t express. Thank you for this gift.” — Shweta, mother of Maithilee (2025 HSCM graduate)

The High School Changemaker Program equips students to break stigma, lead conversations, and create change in their communities while earning volunteer hours. Students learn about substance use, suicide prevention, and behavioral health careers, with guidance from experts including Stanford University. Last year’s cohort called it life-changing.

Conversation, Courage, and Urgency: Parents Seeking Connection

“Why does my child give only one-word answers, and how do I keep the conversation going without making them shut down?

On Feb 7 in Palo Alto, parents joined“I Love My Child, But I Don’t Know How to Help”with urgent questions that kept the conversation going long past time. Guided by Dr Hari Nair, one message stood out: we can’t control the outside world, but we can shape home with compassion, listening, and showing up.

Join us for our next Chalo Baatein KarenTM on March 29 at Newark Library.
