0:04 hey karen how are you 0:05 i'm pretty good how are you i'm great 0:08 i love that you have a glasses thing 0:11 yeah horizontal and vertical 0:14 yep i think for glasses oh you do yeah 0:18 so we were just talking a little while 0:19 ago that you know you live in this 0:21 environment in this country where we all 0:23 are seeking social relationships 0:25 but sometimes it gets really hard and 0:27 you share 0:28 you know why is it why has it been hard 0:30 for you 0:31 i guess it's hard for me uh when people 0:34 move around you know i have moved around 0:36 quite a bit i was born in india 0:39 around the age of 13 i came to us it was 0:42 a big change for me at the time because 0:44 i lived in a village in india and i came 0:47 to cupertino a bay area in u.s 0:49 massive change 0:51 uh and when i say 0:52 massive change i have not i had not seen 0:54 internet before coming to us oh wow so i 0:57 did not know what internet was so it was 0:59 not only social but even like yeah 1:01 technology it was a it was a massive 1:03 change of how world moved i did not know 1:05 how it worked i just sort of observed 1:07 and i 1:08 and personally i was a shy kid quiet kid 1:11 they're very introverted 1:13 and i'm the only child in the family the 1:14 only son and only child so my 1:17 conservative indian family is like 1:19 very overprotective of me so i was a 1:22 very innocent guy at that time so um you 1:26 know when i came to us i spent five 1:27 years here they went by high school went 1:29 by 1:32 around 2018 we decided to go back to 1:34 india 1:35 because my dad had a business there 1:37 and it was also cheaper to do education 1:40 there than in us and i was like i hadn't 1:42 decided what what i wanted to do so i 1:44 agreed to it i got into a good college 1:47 and in india 1:48 and i did my degree and i worked one 1:50 year there 1:52 and uh around the age of 23 in 2019 i 1:55 came back to us 1:57 so 1:58 everything and that's when the lockdown 2:00 happened you know 2:02 and so all of this time my social circle 2:04 structure was pretty rough i mean uh the 2:07 few friends i had in india until the age 2:09 of 13 moved on yeah in five years i was 2:11 in us and when i went to cal when i went 2:14 back to india in 2014 for my degree 2:17 people here moved on because 2:20 you know they moved on with their lives 2:21 uh with the degree and everything and 2:23 when i came back people in india moved 2:25 on so basically i've since i haven't 2:27 been uh stable for a very long at one 2:29 place 2:30 uh people around me moved on and i sort 2:33 of was left around with the idea that i 2:36 don't have any 2:37 specific group i think what you're 2:39 saying karen is so important yeah all of 2:41 us struggle with finding the right 2:44 groups of people and even when we found 2:46 them right how do you keep them 2:48 like that's what happened with you right 2:50 yeah the that's uh that's something 2:52 that's that's pretty hard like 2:54 i i do have some right now a few groups 2:57 of people but then you also i've also 2:59 noticed that there are a lot of 2:59 introverted people that just don't want 3:01 to go outside they want to live alone 3:03 inside 3:04 um 3:05 but the only way you can keep a group of 3:08 people around you is by constantly 3:12 approaching 3:13 by constantly approaching people and 3:15 then coming out of your shell 3:17 essentially that's the only way to keep 3:19 a group of people around yeah 3:22 i'm so glad you you know come on come 3:23 out of your comfort zone and you came to 3:25 this event yeah that is just amazing and 3:27 i'm so glad that you know i think being 3:29 lonely is such a common problem right in 3:32 a crowded world yeah it's true it's a 3:35 because we have a lot more you know we 3:38 have a lot of our retention given to our 3:40 technology 3:41 and social media 3:43 and 3:44 movies video games and all that 3:47 it's hard to 3:48 talk to other people especially when 3:51 you know um 3:54 this is the hard part is to have a 3:56 common interest not everybody goes to 3:58 sports events not everybody likes the 4:01 idea 4:02 of 4:04 of 4:04 basically going to bars and clubs 4:06 everybody does that but you have to find 4:08 something in common 4:10 some people like going hiking going to 4:12 strolls nature 4:14 some people like traveling so they talk 4:16 about that 4:18 but uh it's important to 4:20 step outdoors and talk to people around 4:23 you 4:24 could be anything thank you so much 4:33 [Music]
